Regeneration proposals for St Michael's College, Leeds
The Watkin Jones Group has now submitted a full planning application to Leeds City Council to redevelop the former St Michael's College and Belle Vue Police Garages in Little Woodhouse, Leeds.
The proposals have been prepared following an extensive programme of consultation with local residents, stakeholders and the wider community. Representing around £40m of investment, this scheme will transform a brownfield site to deliver a high quality, attractive development that will meet local housing needs and generate local employment.
Proposed site location at St John's Road
The plans include 262 key worker apartments; purpose built, managed student accommodation totalling 320 bed spaces; 61 open market one and two bed apartments and two new commercial units. Situated a short walk from the city centre, the site is sustainably located and has excellent pedestrian, cycle and public transport links.
This scheme will secure the restoration of the historic 1908 St Michael's College building, which since its closure in 2008, has attracted anti-social behaviour and criminal activity including substantial theft and vandalism. The condition of this locally valued building is rapidly declining, further exacerbated since the Belle Vue police garages have become disused. These plans will secure this heritage asset for future generations and help to meet local housing needs.
